Operation Christmas Hope
The many of the children in the charities that we help to support have never had a Christmas. At Hands of Hope Needlework,
we care deeply for all the children in the programs we help. That is why we are starting Operation Christmas Hope.
We have spoken to the directors of the both the Girl-Child Network Worldwide and the Efata School for the Deaf in Iquitos,
Peru about what the children would need or want.
The Girl-Child Network Worldwide has asked if we could send each of the girls a box of colored pencils.
They are not easy to get in Zimbabwe and would be a special treat for each of the girls. Not only would
it help them in their school work, but also give them something to use for art and recreation. Our plan
is to collect funds or donated boxes of 10 pencils for 150 girls, wrap the each box of pencils and ship
them to the safe villages where they live.
The Efata School for the Deaf in Iquitos, Peru has 16 students. They were asked what they would want if they
could have a Christmas gift. Overall, the students asked for shoes, flip flops, t-shirts, skirts and help
with tuition. We were sent a list by the principal of each child and their desire. Only one girl asked
for a doll, and one boy asked for a ball. We have already had donations for the doll and for one year's
tuition for a child. Tuition at the school is $7.09 a month in US dollars. The principal is getting the sizes
for shoes and clothing that would be needed. We are asking for donations for us to purchase these items for the students.
It is a great time of year to start Operation Christmas Hope with all the back to school sales and events.
If you can send a donation or purchase an item from our Etsy store, you will be helping us to make a
difference in the life of a child. Be it a box of colored pencils to free an imagination or a pair of
flip-flops so a child can go to school, you can be part of this amazing program.
